The severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (COVID-19) pandemic impacts the health of women at reproductive
age in different ways, starting from pregnancy planning to post-delivery. This narrative review summarises the
challenges to obstetric practice posed by the severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (COVID-19) pandemic. In this
paper, we highlight the impacts of COVID-19 to obstetric practice globally and the efforts taken to address these
challenges. Further study is critical to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on pregnancy, the outcome of COVID-
19 positive pregnant women, and the safety of vaccination during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

**Abstract**

On October 22nd and 24th, 2024, the Internationalisation Unit conducted a benchmarking visit to the distinguished medical faculties and teaching hospitals of Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta and Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung. This initiative aimed to facilitate academic and clinical benchmarking while promoting the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and encouraging future collaborative projects. The delegation, led by AP Dr. Fairul, included representatives from the departments of Radiology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Medicine.

The visits provided valuable insights into the significant advancements achieved by both universities in their academic and clinical facilities since their establishment in the pre-war era. Universitas Indonesia showcased its status as the top-ranked university in Indonesia, featuring a highly specialized Radiology Department and innovative developments in Ophthalmology. The historical architecture of its medical faculty complements the modern design of its teaching hospital. Similarly, Universitas Padjadjaran impressed with its Cicendo National Eye Center, equipped with comprehensive medical facilities, including advanced clinical and surgical capabilities.

Both institutions expressed a strong interest in establishing collaborations with UMS in areas such as research, publications, courses, and student and staff exchanges. This visit not only highlighted the achievements of these universities but also laid the groundwork for future partnerships aimed at advancing medical education and practice.
