<title>Smart Apps - Automated Number Plate Recognition System</title>
<link>http://oer.ums.edu.my/handle/oer_source_files/1599</link>
<description>Smart Apps - Automated Number Plate Recognition System
Chin, Kim On; Connie, Liew
None of the dashboard camera available in the market is capable to localize and recognize car plate and hence it is not suitable to be used in accident tracking, car robbery, and bag thief smashes car window purposes. An android based system could replace the dashboard camera as the hardware design of smartphone is much powerful compared to any dashboard camera. This research aims to develop an android based apps that capable to localize and recognize and car plate using Artificial Neural Neural (ANN) controllers. This research aims to 1) develop an android app that can autonomously localize multiple car plates, 2) develop app that capable to recognize the captured car plates, and 3) develop an app that is able to localize and recognize &gt; 95% of captured number plates with very minimal cost. This proposed app could be very useful to track/prevent crimination especially those related to car robbery, window smasher by motorbike rider, accident tracking and probably kidnapping case.

<title>Smart-Hadir - Mobile based Attendance Management System</title>

<description>Smart-Hadir - Mobile based Attendance Management System
Chin, Kim On; Chung, Seng Keau; Mohd Hanafi, Ahmad Hijazi
Manual time and attendance systems are still being practiced within a con-siderable number of universities, colleges, government departments and companies. This traditional system requires the user to fill in their time-sheets or sign on the attendance sheet manually. The practice inefficient and ineffective for university’s student attendance recording due to, i) lecturer may lose the attendance sheet, ii) student may sign for their friends, iii) stu-dent may forget to sign on the attendance sheet, and iv) challenging to mon-itor attendance rate and analysis. As a result, conventional attendance track-ing methods must be replaced with more reliable ones. The attendance rate is important because students can focus and score better results if they at-tend classes consistently. As such, a mobile app, namely Smart-Hadir, is de-signed to overcome problems as mentioned above. Smart-Hadir is a smartphone application developed by UMS aimed to record student attend-ance digitally during a class session. The technology used is slightly different from the existing applications, where Smart-Hadir is not using RFID tech-nology but rather covers NFC, QR code, and beacon technologies. Attend-ance could be taken either using NFC or QR code displayed on the wall us-ing a projector or scan the available beacon. Lecturers can create class ses-sion using the Smart-Hadir anywhere and anytime. Students are then re-quired to take their attendance either scan the QR code, search the beacon, or swiped their student card on the lecturer’s phone. The students’ attend-ance will be immediately captured and saved into the database. Lecturers will be able to view the statistic report, identify and e-mail absentees, as well as monitor students’ attendance behaviour. A statistical report can be gener-ated. It shows the percentages of students’ attendance rate, absent rate, and status. The Smart-Hadir is advantageous as it can be used to capture meeting or event attendance record as well.

<title>Amazing Jawi Augmented Reality (AJAR)</title>
<link>http://oer.ums.edu.my/handle/oer_source_files/1587</link>
<description>Amazing Jawi Augmented Reality (AJAR)
Tanalol, Siti Hasnah; Bacho, Mohd Aidil Safwan
The era rise of smartphones and gadgets technology are becoming frequently and the most common used by children as well as adults. Children nowadays spent a lot of time using smartphone or tablet to play games and social based on studies of research. Playing games that doesn’t benefit them will lead them to addiction and lost interest in learning. So, the project is to ease children the learning of basic Jawi alphabets mobile application. The objectives of the project are to develop android based mobile application consist gamification-based module of Jawi learning. This application will be using Unity3D and Vuforia as the main software requirements in developing this application. This application will help users to improve their learnability of Jawi alphabets. Besides that, this application is developed to evaluate the user acceptance of augmented reality and gamification for Jawi learning. Furthermore, the project is free to use. This project is developed by using Rapid Application Development which is system prototyping. Prototype of the system will interact with users and gather their requirements and fulfil their requirements until the actual system is completed. This project is expected to be a tool that ease children for their learning process of Jawi alphabets.
