Social entrepreneurship and youth development in Sabah: Empowering youth for a sustainable tomorrow

Abstract

Youths are a source of labour and potential entrepreneurs who can contribute to the economic development and growth of a country. Unfortunately, they often encounter various challenges that cause them to not be able to maximise their economic potential. One of the possible solutions to shape youths’ success in life is through their involvement in social entrepreneurship. The advantages of youths’ social entrepreneurship are viewed as a means of advancing youth development and empowerment while strengthening social communities’ well-being. Therefore, based on the experience of youths who are involved in social entrepreneurial activities in Sabah, this study investigates how social entrepreneurship affects youths’ development and offers strategies in promoting their involvement. Data was collected based on in-depth interviews with twelve youths who have participated in social entrepreneurial activities.
