Abstract:
The landscape of employment legislation in Malaysia is undergoing significant transformation, particularly with the amendments to the Employment Act 1955, effective January 1, 2023. Key changes include expanded protections for all employees, regardless of salary, and enhanced rights for part-time and contract workers. The revised act introduces flexible working arrangements and increases minimum wage to RM1,500, aiming to address economic disparities. Additionally, provisions for paid parental leave have been established, reflecting a shift towards a more inclusive workforce. These changes signify Malaysia's commitment to improving labour standards and adapting to contemporary employment challenges in a dynamic economy.
