Abstract:
Awareness of sexual harassment in Malaysia is crucial for fostering a safe environment, yet significant gaps remain in understanding and reporting. A 2019 survey indicated that 36% of Malaysian women experienced sexual harassment, highlighting the pervasive nature of the issue. Despite the enactment of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 (ASHA 2022) cultural norms and victim-blaming attitudes hinder effective reporting and support for victims. Education campaigns are essential to redefine societal perceptions of harassment and empower individuals to speak out. Addressing these challenges requires a commitment to changing deep-rooted gender dynamics and enhancing legal protections to ensure accountability and safety for all.
