Agrotourism, which involves visitors participating in agricultural activities, has emerged as a promising strategy for rural development. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with 15 respondents from the local community to gather rich, detailed insights into the social and economic impacts of agrotourism. The primary aim of this study is to understand how agrotourism initiatives can foster community engagement, enhance local economies, and bridge social gaps. By focusing on the perspectives of local community members in Ranau, the research provides a nuanced understanding of the benefits and challenges associated with agrotourism. The findings suggest that agrotourism not only provides economic benefits by creating new income streams and employment opportunities but also contributes to social cohesion by fostering community participation and preserving cultural heritage. The interviews reveal that agrotourism initiatives in Ranau have been successful in promoting social inclusion by engaging diverse community members and facilitating interactions between locals and visitors. Additionally, the economic diversification brought about by agrotourism has helped to stabilize the local economy, reducing dependency on traditional agricultural practices. However, the study also highlights several challenges, including infrastructure limitations and regulatory barriers, which need to be addressed to maximize the benefits of agrotourism. Overall, this research underscores the potential of agrotourism as a tool for sustainable rural development in Ranau, Sabah. By promoting social inclusion and economic diversification, agrotourism can contribute to the long-term resilience and vitality of rural regions.
